A: We're starting to see deeper hues of colors, like mauves and darker blues. Textiles are shifting toward richer tones, and darker woods are making a comeback in furniture. There’s a clear move away from the lighter pastels and white furniture that have been popular in previous years.

2. Are sustainable trends such as eco-friendly materials, upcycled furniture, and zero-waste designs still relevant?

A: Absolutely! Multi-functional furniture pieces remain essential. Neutral tones that can transition easily to other areas of the home are key, such as chairs, side tables, and lamps. These items can seamlessly move from a nursery to other spaces as your child grows, ensuring longevity and sustainability.

3. Are there any unique themes or room concepts you're seeing on the rise for kids' rooms?

A: Children’s rooms are starting to have more continuity with the rest of the home. Nurseries and kids' spaces now often share a similar aesthetic, color palette, and style with the broader home design, which creates a cohesive feel throughout the entire house.

4. What color palettes are trending for children's rooms in 2024-2025?

A: We’re seeing deeper colors, like mauves, burgundy, greens, and navy, paired with darker wood furniture and mixed vintage pieces. These shades and textures create a rich, warm, and timeless feel that can grow with the child.

5. Are there any hacks you would want to share with us for multifunctional children’s space designs?

A: Storage is absolutely key in any children’s space, especially multifunctional ones. Kids can become overstimulated when a room is cluttered, so having a designated, preferably concealed, space for toys, books, clothes, and stuffed animals helps create a serene, calm environment. This allows the space to function not just as a play area, but perhaps as a study or rest space too.

6. What design advice would you give new moms for creating functional nursery spaces?

A: Design your nursery for your own serenity. Night feeds and cuddles should take place in a space that makes you feel calm and relaxed. If you feel at ease, your baby will, too. So, prioritize comfort and simplicity in your nursery design.

7. Have you noticed any unrealistic designs on social media? What should moms and dads be careful of when browsing online?

A: Social media often sets unrealistic expectations in almost every area of life, and design is no exception. AI-generated images don’t help either. From rooms with built-in slides to spaces filled with extravagant wall variations, elaborate drapery, or custom upholstery, many of these designs are not timeless and can’t be realistically achieved within a standard home or a reasonable budget. It’s important to keep practicality and longevity in mind.

8. Name one overrated interior design trend for children's rooms.

A: Rooms that are overly themed or decorated in a juvenile style don’t last long because children outgrow them quickly. This means that in a few short years, you may have to redesign the space all over again. Stick to timeless elements that can evolve with your child’s changing interests.

9. What are the top decor elements or accessories you recommend for adding fun and creativity to a child's room?

A: Wallpaper or murals are a great way to add personality to a child’s room. In 2025, you’ll start seeing entire rooms covered in wallpaper, not just accent walls. I also love the idea of an accent ceiling to give the room more dimension. Accessories like bookshelves, wall storage pods, or art stations encourage creativity and play. Multifunctional furniture that can grow with your child, like a desk that doubles as a makeup station for little girls, is another great option.

10. How do you see the balance between playful and calming spaces evolving in children's room design?

A: The balance between playful and calming is becoming increasingly important. As we see children’s spaces evolve, I anticipate more serene, calming environments that use soothing color palettes rather than bright, energetic designs. Bedrooms should be a retreat for children, a place where they feel safe and calm, away from the noise and busyness of their daily routines.
