The rug was never really the problem
You chose it because it was soft, and because it looked right in the room. Then everything else happened on top of it — the yoghurt, the felt-tip, the fine dust of a hundred snacks that never made it to the table.

What actually changes
A foam playmat has no pile to hold anything. Spills sit on the surface until you lift them off — a damp cloth, no soaking, no drying time, no stain that quietly becomes permanent while you're out of the room.
Underfoot it's warmer and more forgiving than a rug over hard floor, which is the part most people don't expect. Non-toxic EVA foam, cushioned enough for first crawling, firm enough to push a wooden bus across.
What doesn't change
The reason most parents avoid a playmat is the look — the assumption that practical means primary colours and alphabet tiles. Haven was drawn the other way round: muted, printed patterns that read as a rug from across the room, in colourways chosen to sit with the furniture you already own.

Is it actually durable?
Honestly: foam is foam. Heavy furniture legs will mark it, and a determined toddler with scissors will win. What changes the maths is that the mat is modular — a damaged tile comes out and a replacement goes in, rather than the whole floor being written off.
The tiles interlock on a puzzle join and finish with a bordered edge trim rather than a raw foam lip, so the perimeter stays flat and doesn't curl underfoot.

Somewhere to actually live
